Are Essential Oils For You? Put Them To The Test

by Irene Bradley

Essential oils are becoming more popular by the day. There are several large companies that sell them through home parties and many natural healthcare stores sell a variety, too. Unfortunately, some of the people selling them make huge claims that have not been proven, making many people wary of trying them. Until further studies are done, take matters into your own hands and give them a test. There are many things that essential oils can do for you. Here are some things you need to know to put them to the test:

1. Quality matters. If you are going to diffuse an oil, you can get away with a cheaper oil. However, if you are going to put it on your skin or digest it, you need to buy 100% therapeutic grade oils. It will say on the bottle whether or not it is safe to digest it.

2. Some oils will show immediate results. A swipe of peppermint oil on the roof of your mouth will immediately clear out your sinuses. It also works for rejuvenation. Smell some lemon or orange oil to get a small burst of energy. Place some lavender in your hands and breathe deeply to help you relax. These are great oils to start with because you can tell they are working.

3. Take claims with a grain of salt. Just because someone claims something worked for them doesn't mean it will work for you. You can try it, of course, but don't replace proper medical care with essential oils. Experiment with each of the oils, adding a few here and there, until you are satisfied with your collection.

4. Dilute them properly. Until you know how you will react to the oils, dilute them heavily with fractionated coconut oil or olive oil. You should also always dilute them when you apply them to children. Remember that essential oils are very strong and a small amount goes a long way. One or two drops an application is plenty. Using too much of an oil or using it too often can cause irritation or allergic reactions.

5. You may need to apply more than once. If you don't notice a difference in fifteen minutes (for example, if you are taking it for a headache or stomachache), try applying them again. You can also try applying them in a different area. The bottoms of your feet are great places to put oils because the large pores allow the oils to enter your system quickly. You can also try different oils because there are many oils that help with the same symptoms.

Essential oils are wonderful for so many things. Don't get overwhelmed by all the information out there. Start small and put them to the test yourself. You will be glad you did!
